Catalyst V5

Mac Media Server

The Catalyst V5 software, along with an individually configurable Catalyst Media Server, is one of the most powerful combinations of digital image compositing, capture media, pixel mapping and media control, which can easily be addressed via DMX512, Art-Net and MIDI.
Based on the robust and reliable macOS operating system, the Catalyst V5 software is able to cope with all requirements and yet, thanks to a consistent implementation of Apple’s philosophy of simplicity, easy to use. However, Catalyst is in by no means limited, yet provides access to endless possibilities and functions, despite its easy usage.

SOFTWARE FEATURES

CONTENT MANAGEMENT

Is it really necessary to import media? Is it possible to edit the data later on? Are they easily accessible?

A simple folder structure clearly numbers content for Catalyst V5. With the advantage of parallel work, even large and extensive libraries are easily achievable. In addition, the media folder is accessible at any time via the “Finder” and can be extended without any problems, even from Catalyst.

FILE PROCESSING

The recommended codec for Catalyst V5 for video is ProRes .422. For images it supports all popular standard formats, such as JPG, PDF, or PNG for transparent backgrounds (such as logos).

CATALYST CONTROL PANEL

The Control Panel supports you with all pre- and default-settings of Catalyst V5, which usually only must be set once.

USE UP TO

6 DVI-Outputs!

For example, the DVI outputs are configured in the Control Panel. Each DVI slot is assigned to a display, since macOS internally manages the outputs via a so-called display index. This makes it possible to sort outputs using the index in a specific order. Furthermore, general settings can also be configured in auto-start, resolution, or a full-screen option for stand-alone projects.

DMX & Art-Net CONTROL

The Catalyst V5 software can be easily addressed via DMX512 and Art-Net. Especially with main and backup systems, with an intermediate DVI matrix and control via a console, a video switcher can easily be switched to a backup catalyst system.

10 Art-Net Slots!

CAMERA CONTROL

The Catalyst V5 Control Panel also provides the ability to manage and control cameras. Not only is Catalyst limited to controlling camera functions, it also gives commands about the position and serial commands of beamers or video switchers.

TRIGGering of MIDI-COMMANDS

Catalyst V5 provides full control over MIDI commands that software can create, manage, receive and send. For example, commands can be sent to other consoles via MIDI or via the internal cue list. These include MIDI Show Control, Midi Massine Control and various other controllers.

TRIGGERING OF TIME-CODE COMMANDS

Catalyst can read and sync time code commands. This makes it possible, for example, to start videos parallel to the music during live shows. Furthermore, Catalyst V5 also allows simultaneous switching and control of the computer via the time code commands.

INDIVIDUALIZED WORK AREA

In full screen mode, a so-called Head Up Display can be configured as required. An often-used configuration of the screen is e.g. the use as a control panel during live shows. In this case, working with two DVI outputs allows the main screen to be configured as a control panel and the other screen as a transmission object. So, you can check the utilization live and make small changes or adjustments whenever you need.

Layer-Engine

The Layer Engine of the Catalyst Media Server provides access to all stored audio, video and image content, to the live video inputs of the add-on cards and to adjacent layers or mixes.
Up to 40 layers and up to 40 different sources can be set up in the PRO version of a Catalyst Media Server. Each layer can be color and gamma corrected and will be scaled, positioned or rotated in space for later output. A layer can also be laid on existing or custom 3D objects, bent, colored and masked or alienated with existing visual effects.

Mix-Engine

Mixes allow very flexible control of the outputs, e.g. by allowing pixel-precise routes for LED displays. Each mix can be assigned with a layer or video stream so that multiple layers (such as a video and a logo) can easily be superimposed.

Up to 40 mixes can be configured in the PRO version of a Catalyst Media Server and assigned to a graphics output or the Pixelmad. A mix, in form of a single layer, can be placed on a 3D object, colored and masked, or alienated with existing visual effects. An individual keystone correction and the equalization of the mix in curved projection surfaces is also possible. In addition, multiple mixes can be set up for panoramic projection with and without edge blending and screen shaping.
